Would You Want Your Son To Be A Las Vegas Plumber?
Would you want your son to be a plumber? I like to think that my own answer would be “Why not?”, but a new book by an American writer, Matthew B Crawford, makes a persuasive case for a more affirmative response. The book has an off-putting and, in this country, meaningless title – Shop Class to Soulcraft: An Inquiry into the Value of Work can hardly have helped sales.
What this article is basically referring to is our lack of respect for people that hold jobs that don’t require a degree. It basically heaps critisism on those that think all jobs can be emailed in. Skilled labor is needed in our society and it is becoming less and less respected. It is part of the reason we are in this recession. People cant find work but we have to outsource our service techs. That is why we only hire people that are licensed to work in the USA, we pay them well for their work. We know that giving Americans a living wage is the first step to a recovery this country desperately needs.
